Waste Prevention Messages for the Season
Looking for ways to promote conservation this season? Center for Biological Diversity is the place to go!
They’ve collected facts about how to navigate the holidays sustainably (like is a live or artificial tree better?)
You can use their SoKind Registry service which is a registry and wishlist service that encourages the giving of homemade gifts, charitable donations, secondhand goods, experiences, time, day-of-event help, and more.
They also have ‘sustainable sharables’ like the images below so that you can share your passion for our planet.
Of course using these tools counts as Master Recycler hours!!
Drug Take-Back Program Launched in Oregon
A new resource is available to Oregonians to safely dispose of unwanted drugs. MED-Project is made possible by a Product Stewardship law passed in the last legislative session. Manufactures now provide easy and free disposal for all Oregonians. Never pour drugs down the toilet. This sends chemicals strait to our rivers and wildlife.

SOLVE Event leader Training
Help clean rivers, streets, and beaches for Master Recycler hours!
Thursday, December 9, 2021
6:00 PM 8:00 PM
Zoom
Learn about SOLVE’s resources, funding and training opportunities so that you can organize or assist in existing cleanups in your community.
We will also learn about efforts lead by people experiencing homelessness and hear why and how we can ensure our cleanups are respectful and trauma-informed. Ground Score workers have an expertise in how waste impacts campers and how to interact with campers to respectfully support their waste management. It will be important that Master Recyclers understand this program so that we can avoid unintentionally causing harm to people in the community with our cleanup efforts.
We’ll wrap up the evening with break out groups of people wanting to plan similar projects together.
Guest Speakers:
Jaclyn Sisto-Lopez, SOLVE’s Community Engagement Manager, will provide an overview of the programs and resources.
Barbie Weber, founder of Groundscore, will speak about their program Ground Score launched called G.L.I.T.T.E.R. (Ground Score Leading Inclusively Together Through Environmental Recovery) as a city-contracted program that employs people experiencing homelessness or housing insecurity to clean up areas of the city where people are sleeping outside.

Appreciations
One person completed over one hundred hours and another completed the 30-hour commitment and became an officially Certified Master Recycler this month. A sincere thank you to both of you for your work in bringing important resources and information to your communities!
CENTURIONS
Kim Rolfs (Class 69) has done it all. From chatting with her mom, to helping start a recycling training at Free Geek, Kim has engaged a huge range of people in the community. She has tabled on sustainable consumption, food waste and recycling 4 Fix-it Fairs, 2 PlanetCons, and 4 Repair Fairs (and a bunch of fun events in between). Kim has also helped sustain the Master Recycler program by helping make hundreds of the Centurion buttons (that she can now wear), and greeting and supporting new Master Recyclers as a Mentor.
CERTIFIED
Portlandia may poke fun at recycling, but as the show’s Producer and a Master Recycler, David Cress (Class 49) ensured that the TV set was as green as possible. In fact, he started Green Teams for TV film sets for multiple crews in the region. From Portlandia to Shrill and many TV pilots in between, there has been sustainable catering, food waste plans and, of course, a good recycling plan. He's even Included arranging donations for set decorations and set building for the show after its completion.
