This month ORPET celebrated its grand opening of a new plastic bottle recycling facility in St. Helens Oregon.
ORPET is a collaborative effort between the Oregon Beverage Recycling Cooperative (OBRC) and recycling developers Tom Leaptrott and Dennis Denton. Created after Oregon’s “bottle bill” was altered in 2009 to include non-carbonated drinks, ORPET will recycle as much as 30 million pounds of mostly bottle bill plastic bottles.
ORPET efforts will help keep plastic recycling local, cutting down on costs and negative environmental effects and employing 50 permanent workers.
