The July 2013 Master Recycler newsletter announced that the City of Portland Bureau of Planning and Sustainability would be launching a new project to improve services for people who rent in a single family home, duplex, triplex or fourplex.
At the end of August, landlords who own these types of properties will be receiving a letter
from the City informing them of the minimum requirements they must provide tenants in these households. These requirements have been in effect since 1999, but not all landlords are aware of them. They will also have the opportunity to order free materials to help their tenants use the urbside system.
Master Recyclers will be an integral part of making this pilot a success. Landlords will have the option of requesting literature for tenants or requesting on-site assistance and hanging signage. During late September and early October, teams of Master Recyclers will visit properties and talk with tenants about what goes in each cart, provide printed materials and answer questions for two- to fourplexes.
Dates are not yet set, but evening and weekend times will be available.
