The Position Benefits Supplemental Questions
Under general direction of the City Manager, Sustainability Analyst is the key staff position leading and coordinating the City’s efforts to become more environmentally sustainable, reduce greenhouse gas emissions, and strengthen the community’s resilience to climate impact. Guided by the 2019 a Sustainability and Climate Action Plan, the Sustainability Analyst works with people throughout the City and community to develop and implement policies, programs and practices to reduce the City’s environmental footprint, to conserve and enhance natural resources, and to prevent and adapt to climate change. This position is represented by the Lake Oswego Municipal Employees’ Association/American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees (AFSCME).
Key Responsibilities:
Research, analysis and studies related to implementing sustainability goals city-wide.
Develop policy around climate action goals, regional and statewide waste, energy, and sustainability plans to management, council, and the public.
Manage solid waste franchise and administer contractual obligations.
Implement the City’s sustainability program, sustainability projects, and inter-departmental collaboration to support the City’s sustainability efforts and goals.
Oversee implementation of the Sustainability and Climate Action Plan.
Provide staff support to the Sustainability Advisory Board.
Prepare and present plans, plan updates, and reports.
Represent the City with outside agencies and the community groups regarding sustainability programs and initiatives.
Manage projects, monitor progress, and coordinate activities with staff, stakeholders, and outside agencies.
Performs other duties of a similar nature or level.
Education and Experience Requirements:Qualified candidates will have broad knowledge of public administration, sustainability, and local government management principals, practices, theories and methods. A typical way of obtaining the knowledge, skills, and abilities is through obtaining a four-year Bachelor’s degree in urban planning, sustainability or related field, and working in the field of sustainability for five years. A Master’s Degree in a graduate program in Sustainability or Public Administration is desired. Candidates may also have an equivalent combination of education and experience enabling the incumbent to perform the essential functions of the position
Candidates must have strong MS Word, Excel and other computer application skills. Successful candidates must possess a strong customer service minded skill set, high integrity, ability to work well with varied stakeholders, communicate in a clear, tactful and courteous manner and deliver accurate and timely work product.
Licensing and Other Requirements:
Positions in this classification require the ability to possess and maintain a valid driver’s license and ability to meet the City’s driving standards.
