Ground Score Association (GSA) is an association of informal recyclers, canners, dumpster divers, and other waste pickers who create and fill low-barrier waste materials management jobs in Portland, Oregon. Ground Score is collectively-organized and radically inclusive, prioritizing work opportunities for those facing work and housing insecurity. Ground Score seeks to build a more environmentally and socially aware community, while also changing society’s perceptions of what and who is considered valuable.

 

Ground Score Association is currently fiscally sponsored by the 503c3 nonprofit Trash for Peace with plans to transition into its own 501c3 in 2025. Ground Score's Finance Manager will be responsible for liaising between GSA's co-directors and the Trash for Peace Executive Director and bookkeeping team to ensure the integrity of Ground Score finance processes and procedures. This role will start as part time with the ultimate goal of expanding to full time.

 

Responsibilities:

● Ensuring that Ground Score is following all of the Trash for Peace finance policies and procedures to ensure fiscal compliance

● Overseeing all financial operations, including supporting GSA Directors and bookkeeping team with budgeting, accounting, forecasting, and financial reporting

● Engaging with the GSA finance team to develop and ensure compliance with internal policies

● Supporting the Trash for Peace bookkeeping and executive administrative team and directors with audits as needed

● Attending weekly finance team meetings

● Working with GSA Directors in reviewing contract invoices and reimbursements

● Working with bookkeepers to support financial reporting for grants and contracts

● Working with GSA Directors to write checks and maintain the check register

● Overseeing invoicing for all contracts in close collaboration with GSA Directors

● Writing and managing garnishment checks

● Reconciling cash and develop streamlined and improved systems for cash management.

● Coordinating with managers handling bank withdrawals and possibly overseeing bank withdrawals and deposits directly

● Supporting managers with the tracking of budget spend down and flagging Directors and bookkeeping team about any irregularities, overspends or underspends

● Preparing quarterly finance reports that can be easily understood by membership

● Being available in person five days a week to support cash handling

 

Qualifications:

● Detail-oriented and responsive, working well under deadlines

● Relevant experience with financial management or complex cash tracking procedures

● Experience in understanding and developing budgets

● Proficiency with Google Drive (especially sheets) and ability to learn finance software like Kashoo

● Excellent organizational and time-management skills with the ability to prioritize tasks

● Integrity, transparency, and commitment to ethical financial management

● Ability to work collaboratively in a multicultural environment

● Experience working with marginalized communities is a plus.

● Proficiency with finance software and tools is a plus.

● Experience with grant management/grant accounting is a plus.

● Experience with nonprofit financial management/nonprofit accounting is a plus.

● Understanding of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles and accounting principles is a plus.

● Proficiency in grant compliance regulations and ability to read and interpret contracts and grant agreements is a plus.
