BONITA DAVIS
I am sad to share the news that Bonita Davis passed away in late September. She was deeply committed as a Master Recycler (Class 52) with nearly 1,500 hours of work in the community. She wrote articles on waste reduction, worked on the Bring Your Own Cup campaign, and shared her wealth of knowledge with a nearly endless list of community groups. She also served as a mentor, welcoming many of you into the program and even gave presentations during the class. We are deeply saddened to learn of her passing, and she leaves a big hole in our hearts. You can read her obituary here. Thank you, Bonita, for everything.
Me entristece compartir la noticia de que Bonita Davis falleció a fines de septiembre. Estaba profundamente comprometida como Experta en Reciclaje (Clase 52) con casi 1500 horas de trabajo en la comunidad. Escribió artículos sobre la reducción de desechos, trabajó en la campaña Trae tu Propio Vaso y compartió su gran conocimiento con una lista casi interminable de grupos comunitarios. También sirvió como mentora, les dio la bienvenida al programa a muchos de ustedes e incluso hizo presentaciones durante la clase. The Master Recycler volunteer calendar is pretty empty right now as we move into the holiday season, but that doesn’t mean opportunities aren’t out there!
Are you working on a project that could use another Master Recycler to help? Know a community group that would love to know more about waste reduction around the holidays? Most Master Recyclers fulfill their hours by instigating their own projects. Let me know if you need help.

Welcome Class 83!
Join me in welcoming the newest Master Recyclers of Class 83! This was our first, in-person class in Washington County since the start of the pandemic. Here we all are at Far West Recycling in Hillsboro. I can’t wait to see what you all do moving forward.

Centurions
Master Recyclers who reach 100 hours are Centurions and receive a button to wear next to their Master Recycler badge.

Noemi Zamora (Class 82) was not only one of the first to certify from the Master Recycler class with Red Lodge Transition Services but is now one of the first to reach centurion status! She is a member of the Experts in Recycling group within Clackamas County, and did a ton of one-on-one outreach in parks, apartment communities, and even at Zumba classes. Thank you, Noemi, for all your work.
Noemí Zamora (Clase 82) no solo fue una de las primeras en certificarse de la clase Expertos en Reciclaje con Red Lodge Transition Services, ¡si no que ahora es una de las primeras en alcanzar el estatus de centurión! Ella es miembr del grupo de Expertos en Reciclaje dentro del condado de Clackamas e hizo un montón de actividades de educación uno a uno en parques, comunidades de apartamentos e incluso en clases de Zumba. Gracias, Noemí, por todo tu trabajo.
Araceli Bonales Lara (Class 82) is also now a Master Recycler centurion. She took the Red Lodge course with Noemi Zamora, and the two of them did many of their hours together. A member of the Experts in Recycling group in Clackamas County, she also tabled with Bridging Cultures in Canby. Thank you, Araceli!

Sergio García (Clase 73)
Sergio Garcia (Class 73) reached centurion status this month. Working with Centro Cultural, he has served as the heart of the Expertos en Reciclaje program in Washington County. A mentor for many Spanish speaking Master Recyclers, he can often be found tabling at the Cornelius Farmers Market, working with RecycleArt, and helping out at PlanetCon. Thank you, Sergio! You are making such a lasting impact in the community.
