Position Title: ReClaim It Volunteer Coordinator
Pay Scale: $21 per hour
Hours: 35 hours per week including store retail hours: Wed-Sun 12-5 (Fri & Sat 12-6 Spring/Summer)

Position Description

ReClaim It (“the store”- RCI) is a retail store operated by Cracked Pots, Inc., (CP) a non-profit environmental arts organization devoted to waste reduction. The store sells objects and materials rescued/diverted from the waste stream, to inspire people to reuse and reimagine them. 

The Volunteer Coordinator is responsible for all aspects of the Volunteer program, including: volunteer recruitment and orientation; training volunteers and assigning tasks; managing and providing support to volunteers working in the store. The Volunteer Coordinator also recruits volunteers for our gleaning operations, and for outside events (art shows).

This position requires self-motivation, flexibility, initiative, problem solving and creativity. The Volunteer Manager will need good communication and organizational skills, attention to detail, computer fluency, an outgoing personality, and a commitment to natural resource conservation. Ability to work as a team member is a must.

The Volunteer Coordinator will assume immediate responsibility for all volunteer activities. This position reports directly to the ReClaim It Store Manager.

Primary Duties & Responsibilities

Recruit, orient, train, mentor and celebrate volunteers – for all ReClaim it activities.

Create a regular volunteer newsletter providing volunteers with necessary, informative and helpful information that will enhance and improve the volunteer experience.

Perform a variety of activities related to community outreach: organizing special events; nurturing community partnerships, including those that provide internships; serve as a liaison to community groups:

Be flexible with performing different duties/tasks depending on need in an ever changing work environment, including tasks required for store coverage as needed.

Maintain our volunteer scheduling software (Volgistics) to ensure it is up to date and accurate and train all volunteers in the use of Volgistics. Previous experience with Volgistics is highly desirable.

Support Gleaning operations by recruiting gleaners and facilitating their training specific to the Transfer Station. Work closely with the Materials Manager to maintain clear communications between gleaners and the store regarding desirable materials.

Monitor safety standards in all areas of the workplace, making sure volunteers are adhering to best practices, including following CDC guidelines.

Monitor the volunteer email and respond to emails/texts from the public.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

The ideal candidate for this position will have:

  • At least 3 years verifiable experience coordinating/managing volunteers.

  • Excellent organizational and multitasking skills.

  • Experience in retail merchandise display.

  • Experience with, or knowledge of, second hand/thrift store pricing and selling strategies.

  • Experience in developing “systems” and procedures for smooth store operations.

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

  • Demonstrated computer literacy.

  • Experience with Point of Sale register software - Square.

  • Experience working with Volgistics is desirable but not required.

  • Experience working with a non profit; preferred but not required.

  • Ability to think independently and problem solve when needed.

  • Commitment to demonstrating patience and courtesy with the public and volunteers.

  • Demonstrated commitment to recycling and reuse.

  • Familiarity with ReClaim It and its mission.

  • Capability of lifting up to 30 pounds on an ongoing basis and knowledge about safe practices for moving heavy or unwieldy furniture and items.

  • Capability and willingness to work in an environment that may include dirt, dust, and mold.
