Volunteer Coordinator
S.E. Portland Tool Library
Part Time, 10 hours per week on average
(7 hrs. in-person at SEPTL or on-call, 3 hrs. online which can be done remotely)
The Volunteer Coordinator (VC) must be available (but not always present) for our open hours: Saturdays 9am - noon, Tuesdays and Thursdays 5:30 - 7pm. Typical scheduling will include the VC in-person at SEPTL 3-4 Saturday shifts per month, 2 Tuesday, and 2 Thursday shifts with remaining hours performed remotely. Final scheduling will be coordinated with SEPTL Board President.
The VC can schedule their own remote tasks as long as deadlines are met.
Primary Responsibilities
● Coordinate the recruiting, training and scheduling of all volunteers, answering general inquiries, and communicating with the membership and the Board.
● Schedule volunteers for shifts at the library, ensuring that all shifts are filled adequately using our online volunteer scheduling system.
● Ensure that volunteers are effectively recognized as an integral part of SEPTL’s mission by listening to their input, communicating their suggestions to the Board and showing appreciation for their contributions.
● Respond to general email inquiries.
● Create and send a monthly online newsletter and any additional announcements to the membership at large.
● Engage with other Portland tool libraries and non-profits with similar missions to share ideas and learn best practices.
● Advise the Board about any volunteer policies, manuals, and procedures that need to be updated.
● Ensure that SEPTL’s Code of Conduct is followed at all times
● Other duties as assigned.
Compensation and Other Details
$17 - $19 per hour with no benefits.
The classification is non-exempt, at will.
The Volunteer Coordinator reports to the President of the Board.
