The Solid Waste & Recycling Division of Washington County’s Department of Health and Human Services is hiring a Green Business Food Waste Advisor! If you are interested in helping food-generating businesses to reduce waste and compost and excel at outreach and communicating information to others, apply today to join our dynamic team!

In this position, you will help businesses understand how to meet a new regional requirement to separate food scraps for compost. This includes conducting outreach to ensure businesses are aware of the requirement and providing technical assistance, staff training, and free resources to support businesses in meeting the requirement. You will also have the opportunity to support businesses in additional green practices including food donation, food waste prevention, recycling, and more.

ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education and Experience:
A typical way to obtain the knowledge and abilities would be:

  • Possession of or completion of college-level training equivalent to an Associate's Degree in communication, journalism, public relations, education, education in program related area, or related fields; AND

  • One (1) year of work experience in the development, coordination, and delivery of a public information and communication or community outreach program.

Additional Licenses, Certificates, Physical Abilities and Specialty Requirements:

  • Possession of a Driver's license valid in the State of Oregon and an acceptable driving record per Washington County policy.

SUPPLEMENTAL INFORMATION

SELECTION PROCESS:
1. Week of July 25, 2022: An evaluation of training, education, and experience of submitted application packets will be performed by Human Resources. 

2. Week of August 1, 2022: A Subject Matter Expert (SME) Panel may perform a further evaluation of experience and training taken from your employment application materials to include responses to supplemental questionnaire. This process could take 1-2 weeks depends on the volume of applications we receive.

3. Our goal is to schedule oral panel interviews with candidates that successfully pass the SME evaluation step as soon as possible.
