 Oregon Zoo is seeking a visionary leader with a passion for education and guest engagement as we look to rebuild the education department for our community and zoo members. The successful candidate will report to and work in partnership with the Education Director to influence the design of the new department, provide leadership, vision, planning, direction and accountability. 
 
Using an equity lens the Education Manager will prioritize guest engagement, focus on outcome-based programs, and partner with the community to help foster an innovated program co-design model. You will manage the team to implement three guest facing programs; volunteers, youth paid workplace program known as ZAP (Zoo Animal Presenters), and hire staff to create a new teen program.
 
As the Education Program Manager you will:

  • Work closely with director of education to create a program outcomes framework for the department.

  • Work collaboratively across departments as a stakeholder in message development.

  • Lead and support staff in the development and management of program budgets to meet the strategic goal of achieving financial sustainability.

  • Incorporating conservation action messaging and activities in all programs.

  • Develop a new inclusive teen program focused on career pathways and guest engagement.

  • Work with volunteer coordinator to expand the volunteer program to focus on guest engagement.

  • Oversee a team of Coordinators/Education specialists.

Minimum qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree related to scope of the position AND

  • Three years leading or supervising people AND

  • Two year’s relevant experience in project management, multi-departmental taskforce or education program creation; OR

  • We will consider any combination of education and experience that provides the necessary knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the duties and responsibilities of the position.


Required:

The candidate selected for the position will need to pass a criminal LEDS background check prior to being hired. Criminal convictions do not necessarily preclude employment and will be evaluated on a case by case basis.

Like to have qualifications:

You do not need to have the following preferred qualifications/transferable skills to qualify. Your transferable skills are any skills you have gained through education, work experience, including the military, or life experience that are relevant for this position.

  • At least two years’ experience managing at least two full-time employees.

  • Working in at least two different AZA accredited facilities in career history.


COMPENSATION AND REPRESENTATION

Based on the Oregon Pay Equity Act requirements, Metro’s internal equity review process, and the candidates’ qualifications, the appointment will typically be made between $95,220.00- $124,000.00 annually. The full-salary range for this position is $95,220.00 - $135,241.00 annually.

This position is not eligible for overtime, and is not represented by a union. It is classified as a Manager I (Download PDF reader). Classification descriptions are typically written broadly and do not include the specific duties and responsibilities of the positions.
