Reports to: Site Executive Director 

SCRAP is searching for an energetic and outgoing individual to fill the role of Reuse Specialist. This position is responsible for providing excellent customer service in a welcoming environment and receiving, processing and managing high quality and safe creative reuse materials for retail and Online Stores.  

SCRAP’s mission is to inspire creative reuse and environmentally sustainable behavior by providing educational programs and affordable materials to the community. To fulfill our mission, SCRAP operates a donation-based creative reuse store and education programming.  

JOB SUMMARY 

This position is well-trained in both the reuse supply/retail and recovery/donations duties and will be scheduled in both capacities in any given week dependent upon the needs of the organization. This position is responsible for providing excellent customer service in a welcoming environment and receiving, processing, and managing high quality and safe creative reuse materials for retail. This role will provide fast paced sorting and organization and/or physical support to the donations department and will be expected to engage in frequent heavy lifting over the course of a shift. The Site Executive Director or designee will determine the scheduling needs for maximum efficiency.    

Duties include, but are not limited to: 

Reuse and Donations Operations

  • Providing excellent customer service

  • Ensuring customers are greeted professionally, warmly and helpfully

  • Retail cashiering

  • Opening/closing store as scheduled

  • Inventory pricing

  • Sort, stock, and organize sections

  • Maintaining a clean and orderly shopping environment

  • Assisting with display and promotions

  • Offering creative advice as requested

  • Maintaining high quality standards for handling materials

  • Helping direct volunteers to ensure safe and efficient use of time

  • Providing excellent customer relations while receiving materials

  • Staying current on what materials are accepted

  • Using appropriate protocol in processing received materials

  • Using appropriate pricing protocol as directed by the Site Executive Director or designee

  • Stock items according to accepted protocol onto the floor or back stock area

  • Working with Reuse Supply Manager to develop efficient systems for materials processing

  • Maintaining high quality standards for handling materials

  • Help direct materials volunteers to ensure safe and efficient processing

  • Other duties as assigned by the Site Executive Director or designee

Qualities 

  • Must have a passion for SCRAP’s Mission

  • Must have a commitment to reuse and some knowledge of the reuse sector

  • Must have a passion for arts accessibility and removing barriers to participation in creation

  • Must be capable of physical labor, fast paced movement, standing, heavy lifting, and materials processing with a variety of materials and types of material donations

  • Highly organized with regards to inventory, materials, and sorting

Working Conditions 

  • A high frequency of unassisted heavy lifting (up to 50 lbs. on a regular basis per shift)

  • Bending, stooping and climbing

  • Standing and walking for the duration of the shift

  • Weekend schedule availability

Work as part of a team with other staff, volunteers, and programs to fulfill SCRAP’s mission; communicate effectively and focus on good stakeholder relations; greet stakeholders professionally, warmly and helpfully; stay current with the environmental services community and sources of information and referrals for callers and customers; stay current with developments in reuse and recycling, including legislation and availability of recyclable materials markets; when necessary, say “no” tactfully and suggest other community resources to meet appropriate needs; and is an ambassador for SCRAP in the community.
