Recycling Advocates (RA), a 30+ year-old, membership-based 501(c)(3) nonprofit corporation, is seeking a Resource Director to provide administrative management and communications support for 8-10 hours per week. Our mission is to involve people in creating a sustainable future through local efforts to reduce, reuse and recycle. RA has a long history of supporting the Master Recyclers program in the Portland Metro area and successfully advocating for local and state policies and programs. This part-time position is designed to collaborate with volunteers and the board of directors to strengthen the organization as a whole.

What you’ll get to do:

  • Develop monthly newsletter and social media communications with input from the board.

  • Manage membership database and develop systems for fundraising and membership recruitment.

  • Update organization website as needed.

  • Represent our organization in public when in-person events resume.

  • Attend monthly board meetings.

  • Potential to increase hours through fundraising and/or successful grant applications.

The ideal candidate will have:

  • A commitment to environmental sustainability and waste reduction issues. Bonus if candidate has completed the Master Recycler Program and obtained certification.

  • Previous experience working or volunteering experience with non-profit organizations and/or directly participating in outreach or education campaigns.

  • Ability to comfortably contact people by phone or in person (bonus if candidate is bilingual).

  • Experience working with volunteers, or on fundraising efforts, with out-going, friendly personality.

  • Website maintenance skills/experience.

  • Basic design skills (Canva, Adobe InDesign, Illustrator, or similar).

  • Bonus: An interest in learning simple video editing.

  • Bonus: Experience writing grant proposals and securing funding.

To qualify, applicants must specifically address and demonstrate in their cover letter and resume how their education, training, and/or experience meet each of the following minimum qualifications:

  • Strong professional communications/marketing skills

  • Advanced knowledge: Microsoft Word, Excel

  • Working knowledge: Wordpress, MailChimp

  • High attention to detail

  • Experience editing websites via Wordpress

Basic Job Requirements:
The Resource Director must be located within the Portland, Oregon Metro area. The Resource Director must provide their own computer, home or alternate office space, transportation, and phone (RA has a phone number, but the Resource Director must be able to check messages and be reachable by phone or email throughout the week). Mileage and drive-time for any transportation to and from events will be reimbursed.

The ideal candidate will have some daytime and evening availability. Communication with members, volunteers, and businesses/officials is necessary. Applicant must be available for monthly Board meetings.
RA welcomes all interested candidates to apply; we are a flexible, equitable, anti-racist employer.

Compensation/Hours:
