Located seven miles west of Portland, Oregon, Beaverton is a welcoming, active and diverse city with a population of 98,000 with one in five residents born outside the United States. The Sustainability Analyst is a new job title and classification for a previous position and operates out of the Mayor’s Office. Climate action and general sustainability will be the focus of the position, built on the framework established by the Beaverton Climate Action Plan (BCAP) that was adopted by the Beaverton City Council in November 2019.
With a goal of institutionalizing climate and sustainability work throughout the city – the position will work with staff from all departments, and key partners in the community to develop and implement actions. Among these cross-department efforts in 2020 and 2021 will be:
A fleet electrification strategic plan
Strategic energy management for city operations
Escalated conversion of streetlights to LED
A food waste system strategic plan
Single-use plastics reduction
Renewable energy opportunities for the community
Home energy scoring program
A staff education program
Community outreach and education
Updating internal sustainability goals
Developing reporting metrics and progress indicators for the city and community
And a five-year BCAP implementation plan/timeline
