Position Title: Senior Solid Waste Planner

Salary: $72,176.00 – $96,761.60 Annually
POSITION SUMMARY:
Food accounts for nearly a fifth of all garbage that goes to the landfill from the Portland area. This
includes food that could be composted or turned into energy. Metro is looking for an experienced
person to lead and support efforts to reduce the wasting of food. The successful candidate will be ready
to lead projects, implement policies, and collaborate with other organizations to advance efforts to
prevent food waste, increase the donation and rescue of edible food, and support the development of
food scrap collection programs.
As a Senior Solid Waste Planner, you will spend about two‐thirds of your time on food waste‐related
work, developing work and project plans, managing complex projects, leading working groups, and
conducting research and analysis. You'll also play a key role in the development and maintenance of
partnerships with businesses, other government agencies and community‐based organizations to
advance food waste reduction efforts. Your role will include work on other solid waste and waste
reduction issues and you will provide technical support for development of Metro's 2030 Regional
Waste Plan.

management skills, is a fantastic communicator, will be an effective representative of Metro in a variety
of settings, and who has a demonstrated ability to work collaboratively and in partnership with others
across sectors.
You will work as part of a team of solid waste planners and project managers. Your work will be directed
by a manager in the Resource Conservation and Recycling division of Metro's Property and
Environmental Services department. Your primary work site will be Metro Regional Center.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
A Bachelor's degree and three years of experience in solid waste, project management, or public
administration or policy development; or any combination of experience and education which provides
the applicant with the desired skills, knowledge and ability required to perform the job.
Preferred qualifications for strong collaborative leadership skills and a demonstrated ability to form and
maintain partnerships, lead groups, and to work effectively with others on a common task and also
experience working with waste reduction or other sustainability programs.
