The City of Portland's Bureau of Parks and Recreation is seeking an Assistant Program Specialist to work in its Community Gardens Program. This position will provide administrative program support to three staff, 100 volunteer garden managers, and over 2,000 community gardeners throughout the city representing more than 16 language groups. They will act as the primary point of contact for the program, process all program registrations, maintain client data and other records, and support seasonal outreach events. Additional duties include educating clients about garden program policies, interpreting policies, and assisting with policy enforcement. They will generate and update program materials including newsletters, marketing materials, social media, registration materials, and web content. The Assistant Program Specialist will be responsible for updating, tracking, and associated goals in support of the Community Gardens Racial Equity Plan. This position will work on issues relating to anti-racism and cultural competency. Basic knowledge of vegetable gardening or farming desired. The position is 40 hours per week with some evening and weekend work required.

To Qualify:
The following minimum qualifications are required for this position:
Ability and experience establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with managers and staff, representatives of other agencies, the public and others encountered in the course of work.
Experience preparing clear, concise and comprehensive reports, correspondence and other documents appropriate to the audience.
Ability and experience maintaining data files, records and documentation.
Ability and experience analyzing program, administrative, operational and procedural problems, evaluating alternatives and reaching sound, logical, fact-based conclusions.
Exercise independent judgment and initiative within established guidelines.
