Clark County Solid Waste Education and Outreach is a division of Clark County Public Health dedicated to providing tools and resources for residents to make thoughtful decisions for a healthier and more sustainable lifestyle that also benefits the environment. County staff strives to offer fun and interesting programs and events to encourage organic learning opportunities and spur environmental action. This position will be tasked with assisting the Green Neighbors program (www.clarkgreenneighbors.org) with projects to change behaviors related to waste reduction, recycling, food waste prevention, and natural garden care. Projects include the WasteBusters Challenge, Food Waste Prevention Week, Pacific Park community garden and demonstration gardens, and the Natural Garden Tour. Interviews will be conducted in June - July. This is an AmeriCorps National Service Position. This position is contingent on funding and open until filled. Member Duties : The member will serve Clark County residents by leading various projects to educate on a multitude of sustainability topics. The member will develop the framework to publicize and execute the WasteBusters Challenge, a pledge-based competition; communicate and organize community garden plots at Pacific Community Park; plan activities around Food Waste Prevention Week, a national event; recruit and coordinate the Natural Garden Tour, a self-guided tour of gardens in which the owners avoid the use of synthetic chemicals; and other small events and workshops. In addition, the member will assist with holiday waste reduction promotion; present to groups and table at events to represent the program; address questions and concerns via phone and email; write blog and social media posts and news releases; and provide occasional support for other Green Team events and activities.
