Are you interested in providing administrative support to an exciting array of programs and actively working to bring equity and racial justice to our community?
We are seeking enthusiastic applicants for a temporary, benefited opportunity providing administrative support to the Parks and Nature Equity and Racial Justice Program, Special Projects and Critical Initiatives team and the Community Education and Stewardship (CES) team. The person filling this position will primarily telework and report to the administrative supervisor, but have work assigned from their project teams.
In this role, you will demonstrate the Parks and Nature’s cultural competencies of cultural awareness, inclusive communication and racial equity as you practice and grow in disrupting racism individually, interpersonally, institutionally and structurally. You will recognize the nuances of your own and other’s cultures and proactively seek to learn from and show humility toward others. You will embrace brave conversations and be an active contributor in creating safe and welcoming spaces.
Duration: This short-term assignment will last through mid-November 2023
Schedule: 40 hours a week, Monday through Friday with the ability to work between the hours of 6:00 a.m. – 6:00 p.m.
As the Special Projects and Critical Initiatives, Community Education and Stewardship Assistant you will:
Provide general administrative support to assigned teams and projects: scheduling and calendar management, meeting and communication coordination, drafting and editing copy for web and print, processing stipends for community members, managing files, planning and managing events.
Support Parks and Nature’s Equity Advisory Committee: assisting with agenda development and pre-meeting communication, creating accessible print and visual materials, providing meeting support in advance and at meetings, taking meeting notes.
Support the CES team’s communications by providing:
Event marketing: posting events to the web, coordinating events to be published in Our Big Backyard, posting events to social media, sharing events with community partners.
Website management: updating and maintaining team’s public facing web page, drafting and editing content to convey team values, meeting Metro Communications and Web Desk standards.
Support CES community-led sponsorships process:
Communicating award requirements to awardees and working with awardees to prepare documentation for insurance requirements, supporting Sponsorship Agreements, processing purchase order documents.
Maintain workflow with awardees and Metro staff via Smartsheet.
Provide back-up to other CES program assistant as needed: customer communications, program registration, coordination and logistics support.
Attend and support in-person meetings, events and trainings, as business needs require.

Minimum qualifications:
A High school diploma or G.E.D.; AND
Two years of administrative and/or clerical work experience; OR
Any combination of education and experience which would provide the applicant with the desired knowledge skills, and ability required to perform the job.

COMPENSATION AND REPRESENTATION
Based on the Oregon Pay Equity Act requirements, Metro’s internal equity review process, and the candidates’ qualifications, the appointment will typically be made between $26.24/hour to $30.38/hour. The full-salary range for this position is $26.24 to $35.16 per hour.
This position is eligible for overtime and is represented by AFSCME. It is classified as a Program Assistant II (Download PDF reader). Classification descriptions are typically written broadly and do not include the specific duties and responsibilities of the positions.
