Volunteer Coordinator - SCRAP

SCRAP is looking for a Volunteer Coordinator for our Portland creative reuse non-profit! If you are a hard working people person who doesn’t mind getting covered in glitter, we want to hear from you. You’ll join our close-knit team in our mission to encourage sustainability and provide affordable craft supplies to the community. This position focuses on keeping our wonderful individual and group volunteers organized and engaged. We need someone with a lot of energy, compassion, and the ability to multitask. The position is 32 hours spread generally over Tuesday through Saturday, but will require some flexibility. Volunteer Coordinator 32 hours/week Hourly/Non-exempt Vacation, PTO, and Healthcare Stipend Monthly craft allowance of $25 which expires at the end of each month Reports to: Director Direct Reports: None JOB SUMMARY This position is responsible for providing excellent customer service in a welcoming environment and engaging volunteers in fulfilling our mission.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

● The day-to-day coordination of the Volunteer Program

● Recruiting and interviewing potential volunteers

● Training new volunteers to ensure store functions are managed safely and properly

● Participating in the community of nonprofit volunteer management through NOVAA

● Consistently increasing knowledge, program improvement and volunteer engagement through professional development opportunities

● Collecting and reporting on data related to the volunteer program using Volgistics

● Maintaining volunteer records

● Working in conjunction with other staff members to ensure that volunteers at SCRAP are engaged in an effective manner

● Coordinating volunteers for events

● Supervising volunteers at events as needed Revision 3/20/2019

● Maintain CPR certification

● Some store and donation related assistance including cashiering, materials sorting, and coordinating with staff of other departments.

Works with Director to:

● Maintain a diverse and consistent recruiting strategy

● Manage the volunteer program, including developing, implementing, and monitoring systems and guidelines

● Maintain the Volunteer Handbook

● Resolve volunteer issues and conflicts

Expectations of all SCRAP Staff:

● Work as part of a team with other staff, programs, volunteers and Board of Directors to fulfill SCRAP’s mission

● Communicate effectively and focus on good stakeholder relations

● Greet stakeholders professionally, warmly and helpfully

● Stay current with the environmental services community and sources of information and referral for callers and customers

● Stay current with developments in recycling and reuse, including legislation and availability of recyclable materials markets

● When necessary, say “no” tactfully and suggest other community resources to meet appropriate need

● With other staff, act as an Ambassador for SCRAP in the community
