OPAL trains organizers who go on to do amazing work in the Social Justice movement. Our training programs are designed to build organizing skills, political education, and develop grassroots leadership in the regional Environmental Justice movement.

The OPAL Organizing Fellowship is a program designed to help folks expand their skillsets to advance and run effective campaigns around Transit Justice. This 6-month program requires a 20-hour commitment each month. We provide training, stipends ($20/hour), and the opportunity to develop and run effective campaigns to improve the lives of community members. Fellows are sometimes offered opportunity to prolong involvement, take on additional organizing, and receive mentorship in seeking organizing placements in the community.

Does the Fellowship pay?
Yes! Fellows receive $20 hourly for approximately 20 hours per month.
Are there age, education, or experience requirements?
The program is open to everyone 18 years or older. If you’re under 18, consider joining the Youth Environmental Justice Alliance. We hope to build a diverse cohort of Fellows. We encourage participants from historically-marginalized communities to apply.
What are the hours worked?
We’re flexible! We want you to learn to organize, which can lead to full-time opportunities in the future. This is a learn-by-doing, paid internship. We ask that applicants are prepared to make a 20 hour commitment per month, and be prepared to participate for six months. We also want individuals who recognize this as more than just a job: the Fellowship is a paid opportunity to learn and get closer to the grassroots organizing, base-building, and systems change work that makes OPAL so special. What we’re saying is: Fellows become a part of the OPAL Family. Once you’re here, it can be hard to leave.
