Centurions
This month, three people reported their 100th hour. This puts them into the very special status as Centurion Master Recycler. To recognize their efforts, they will receive a 100 button to wear next to their badge. It is made of reused bottle caps.
Este mes, tres personas reportaron su centésima hora. Esto los coloca en estado muy especial como Experto en Reciclaje “Centurion”. Para reconocer sus esfuerzos, recibirán un botón “100” para usar junto a su etiqueta. Es hecho de tapas de botellas reutilizadas.
Karen Levine (Class 59) completed her first 30 hours mostly in schools. She joined Clackamas County recycling educator, Laurel Bates, to offer classroom presentations to almost 200 elementary students. After becoming a Certified Master Recycler, she deepened her involvement in schools helping with the development of green teams and supporting the roll-out of the Clackamas School District milk dispensary project. During this last year, Karen has turned her Master Recycler hours toward helping 50-80 families access food each week through the Milwaukie Food Pantry.
Karen Levine (Clase 59) completó sus primeras 30 horas principalmente en las escuelas. Se unió a la educadora de reciclaje del condado de Clackamas, Laurel Bates, para ofrecer presentaciones en el aula a casi 200 estudiantes de primaria. Después de completar su certificación, profundizó en su participación en las escuelas. Ayudando con el desarrollo de equipos ecológicos y apoyando con el inicio del proyecto de dispensario de leche del distrito escolar de Clackamas. Durante este último año, Karen ha invertido sus horas de Master Recycler en ayudar a 50-80 familias a acceder a alimentos cada semana a través de Milwaukie Food Pantry.
Etosha Terryll (Class 71) found her home among fellow creative reuse enthusiasts at Cracked Pots. She joined as a board member so she could help this amazing organization grow and flourish. One of Etosha's main contributions is to offer a series of education comics that feature recycling, waste prevention, self-portraits, and Etosha's adorable baby. Etosha Terryll (clase 71) encontró su hogar entre compañeros entusiastas en la reutilización creativa a Cracked Pots. Se unió como miembro de la junta directiva para poder ayudar a esta increíble organización a crecer y prosperar. Una de las principales contribuciones de Etosha es ofrecer una serie de cómics educativos que incluyen reciclaje, prevención de desperdicios, autorretratos y el adorable bebé de Etosha. Lee Kilbourn (Class 67) recently received a ‘Game Changer’ award from the Lloyd EcoDistrict which goes to people who lead the way on new approaches and inspire people around them to rise to the challenge. Lee took the Master Recycler class with a determined focus to improve recycling at the senior living facility Holladay Park Plaza where he lives. He takes questions from his fellow residents, sets up signs and tabling (preCOVID), and is on the Building and Grounds committee. He is pictured here for the Lloyd EcoDistricts Award They said, Thanks to Lee's efforts, "thousands of polystyrene clamshells have been saved from the landfills and thousands of redeemable cans and bottles are transported to collection centers!"
Lee Kilbourn (Clase 67) recibió recientemente un premio "Cambiador de juego" del Lloyd EcoDistrict, que se otorga a las personas que lideran el camino en nuevos enfoques e inspiran a las personas que los rodean a enfrentar el desafío. Lee asistió la clase de los Expertos en Reciclaje con un enfoque decidid a mejorar el reciclaje en su comunidad para personas mayores. Allí responde a las preguntas de sus compañeros residentes. Congratulations and a sincere thank you to Laura Kutner Tokarski (Class 70) who is now a Certified Master Recycler! What can we say about Laura?? As the founder and Executive Director of Trash for Peace, she is always pressing the Solid Waste and Recycling community in our region to do better. She's been a strong advocate for more equitable services for multifamily communities, joined the rallying cry for equity in the waste workforce -especially for informal workers-, and she drives change in programs like ours so that they are more relevant and accessible to the community. She also creates opportunities so that children and young adults can see themselves as environmentalists and feel hope for a healthier future. Laura took Class 70 together with residents in three multifamily communities that Trash for Peace services. It was the first of the Master Recycler Community Designed courses. She is pictured in the front right with her class on graduation day.
Felicitaciones y un sincere agradecimiento a Laura Kutner Tokarski (Class 70). Ella completo su certificación de Experta en Reciclaje este mes. ¿¿Qué podemos decir de Laura?? Como directora de Trash for Peace, siempre esta presionando a la comunidad de desechos sólidos y reciclaje para que lo hagamos mejor. Ha sido una firme defensora de servicios más equitativos para comunidades multifamiliares. Se unió al clamor por la equidad en la fuerza laboral desperdiciada -especialmente para los trabajadores informales. Laura impulsa el cambio en programas como el nuestro para que seamos más relevantes y accesibles para la comunidad. También crea oportunidades para que los niños y los adultos jóvenes se puedan ver a sí mismos como ambientalistas y sientan la esperanza de un futuro más saludable. Laura asistió la Clase 70 junto con los residentes de tres comunidades multifamiliares. Fue el primero de los cursos diseñados por la comunidad de Expertos en Reciclaje.
