Ruthann Marquis (Class 51) spent much of her early volunteer hours on the St. Vincent Hospital's Green Team. She also staffed the City of Portland's Resourceful PDX information booth helping people learn about resources to reuse, share, borrow, repair and purchase experiences instead of things. Lately, Ruthann has been busy heading the Green Team at the Valley Community Presbyterian Church. The team is gathering points to be an Earth Care Congregation through the PCUSA. The latest project she led in this endeavor was a community collection event for recycling and reuse. They collected items for Community Warehouse, Interstate All Battery Centers, Agilyx and GemText just to name a few.

Helen Krieger (Class 66) works to inspired folks to Reduce, Reuse and Recycle in her own community from family to members of her HOA and her church. She also spent many of her hundred hours as part of the Westside Master Recyclers. This collaborative and energetic group of Master Recyclers have offered creative activities at the Hillsboro and Forest Grove Farmers Market and they are the amazing force behind the PlanetCon events.

A huge thank you to Kim Rolfs (Class 69) and Karen Huck (Class 66) for helping make this new round of buttons!

We have handmade Centurion buttons made from bottle caps! We had been out a while. So, I am not sure who I owe a button.

Please mail masterrecycler@portlandoregon.gov if you have reached over 100 hours and would like us to mail your button. Be sure and include your mailing address in the case you have moved.

Certified Master REcyclers

Thank you for completing your 30-hour commitment!

Emily Lane (Class 72), a Canby resident, was an extremely enthusiastic member of the Clackamas County course in the spring. She immediately jumped into action after the training on working with youth. She also joined the Clackamas crew at the County Fair and Willamette Farmers' Market. Emily then took her commitment to the next level. She decided to be an AmeriCorps volunteer for a year for the City of Gresham's Solid Waste and Recycling team. She is now engaging other Master Recyclers to help with Door-to-door outreach in multifamily communities. "I am working hard to fix the inequities in multifamily communities to ensure the residents have safe and easy access to recycling."
