Lights in Lents: Deep Sea Sculpture Garden Community Art Project

  • 9123 Southeast Foster Road Portland, OR, 97266 United States (map)

"Lights in Lents" is a community-imagined and community-created sculpture art project. They will be transforming plastic trash to deep-sea inspired & illuminated sculptures to bring awareness to plastic & micro-plastic pollution and come together as a community to make awesome illuminated art in Lents as part of the city-wide Portland Winter Light Fest (PDXWLF)!

They want to add an educational component to the community build days by hosting Lunch and Learns and doing a resin-identification and plastic material sorting activity (similar to activities #2 and #4 at this site)

What you would do:

They would love to invite a Master Recycler to (1) give a presentation about the program and how we can be more plastic conscious in our lives and/or (2) lead the post-plastic collection resin-identification and sorting activity on Saturday, January 20th.

They can provide tables, chairs, lunch, and publicity/promotion.

The goal of the "Lights in Lents" project is to engage East Portlanders, in particular youth and families, to create, dream, and build together. This project will facilitate conversations between neighbors and build community connections by creating a space where people can take pride in East Portland, learn new skills together, and build a more inclusive and joyful community. This work builds connections and inspiration through creative collective work to promote resilience in underserved East Portland communities. During the display period, the sculpture garden will also be used as a community stage to create an opportunity for local performances, music, and environmental education about plastic, recycling, and the environment. As this is ever evolving based on who shows up, please check out our website eastpdxcollective.org for more details.
