Nonprofits City Repair and Portland ReStore are collaborating with socially and environmentally supportive architects to create DIY instructions for building home furnishings out of material that is difficult to reuse, material hat both nonprofits have identified as going into the waste stream. The instructions will be used in the ReStore to inspire a DIY ethic, while City Repair will actively use the designs to divert waste while building villages for the houseless.
Designs and propes have been created including a bench made from fan blades, a chair from pvc pipe, a hanging rack from dimensional lumber, and a few other designs in the works. Help needed from is support in writing a disassembly and responsible recycling or landfilling option. The deadline for content is the first week of April so that we can print the instructions to showcase for Earth Week activities at the ReStore and at City Repair.
